Forum: movies Subject: Re: Incorrect Derivation for 16:9 Items

ok, "rectangular pixels" are just fine here for widescreen videos, as are "square pixels" but with a dimensional 16:9 ratio aspect to them.

the problem seems to me to be as follows.
in the flash player on our site (and should be the same case w/ a video player that understands wide video), the 1st and last video derive properly with a 16x9 aspect. however, the middle three are not quite right.

it looks to me that those 3 videos have no indication of the "PAR" or "DAR" (Pixel Aspect Ratio) or (Display Aspect Ratio) in the dv AVI container file.
so when that's the case, most software will see 720x480 and have to assume that it is a square pixel and therefore literally 720x480.

if they had a 4:3 DAR, they'd be treated as 640x480; and if they had a 16:9 DAR, they'd be treated as ~852x480.

so i'm guessing you played around with some of the video files in certain ways for some but not all, etc.?
